Background
How it all began
Caire is a patient automation platform, co-created by Northwell Health, the largest health system in the state of New York, and by Aegis Ventures, a next-generation startup studio. Caire Health aims to improve patient experiences and streamline clinician workflows, with the help of intelligent AI agents. These agents will empower health systems to digitize condition-specific treatment paths to help deliver high-quality care, drive better health outcomes, all while reducing the workload on care teams.
Solution
Architecture
To develop a multi-pronged platform that enables health systems to create condition-specific care journeys using our no-code builder, to deliver personalized care journeys through SMS-based AI agents, and to establish a two-way feedback loop, allowing care teams to monitor patient progress and receive alerts when issues arise.
In our P0 phase, we launched a lightweight web portal that enables care teams to view and manage patient care journeys and respond to alerts. In future phases, we’ll integrate with EHR systems, like Epic, to create a seamless feedback loop that enables care teams to easily manage care journeys within the workflows they are already accustomed to.
No-Code Builder
The no-code builder is a key feature of the Caire Platform, enabling users without coding experience to create and launch AI-powered, condition-specific care journeys. With an intuitive interface, users can design personalized care journeys by adding touchpoints like automated visit scheduling, forms, educational content, and more.
Creating a Care Journey
Once a health system has enrolled in Caire Health, they can begin setting up condition-specific care journeys, tailored to their unique needs and protocols. One can draft a new care journey from scratch or select from one of our 20+ preconfigured care journeys, each created and validated by clinical experts in their respective fields.
Adding Touchpoints
Our no-code builder is designed to make it easy for anyone to develop and deploy AI-powered patient care journeys, with no coding experience required. A user can choose from one of 6 touchpoint types from the Touchpoint Palette to add to their canvas.
Applying Logic
A user can configure the parameters of the touchpoint to guide the AI agent on what content should be communicated with the patient, along with specifics of when it should be communicated (eg. at a specific time, before/after a planned event, or based on patient responses).
AI Agent
The patient AI agent is an always-on, SMS-based care guide designed to meet patients wherever they are. It’s designed to help answer health-related questions, prompt patients to complete tasks, and provide timely reminders for upcoming appointments. The AI agent can relay important alerts to the care team through the web portal.
Q&A
The AI agent can answer care journey related questions, provide deterministic responses to health inquiries, and recognize and respond appropriately to emergency intents.
Reminders
The AI agent can keep track of a patient’s care journey and provide timely reminders, such as fasting before a procedure, to help the patient stay on top of their health.
Tasks
The AI agent can prompt patients to complete forms, confirm upcoming appointments, and schedule visits, all aimed to streamline patient tasks and reduce administrative burdens.
Content
The AI agent can share articles, content modules, and videos with patients based on planned care journey touchpoints or on-demand based, on a patient’s inquiry or derived intent.
Web Portal
The Care Team Web Portal is a centralized hub where team members can go to actively track a patients progress, make manage their care journey, or address any alerts surfaced by the Al agent. In future phases, web portal functions will live within a care team's existing EHR workflows.
